Micromax owned YU Televentures launched its flagship smartphone touted as the ‘Most Powered Smartphone on the Planet’ – YU Yutopia. The smartphone that is priced at a competitive price of Rs. 24,999 comes with a brilliant spec sheet that is capable to challenge the main players of the smartphone business. But is it really the ‘most powerful smartphone in the world’, I have my doubts on that, which will be cleared after a few days. But at this price tag, the YU Yutopia is all set to give a run for their money to the OnePlus 2. PRICE Comparision: The newcomer YU Yutopia carries a price tag of Rs. 24,999 and it will be exclusively available on the online shopping website Amazon. The Yutopia is up for pre orders now and it will start shipping starting on the 26th December. The thing that is worth praising is that YU has parted ways from its flash sale model for the Yutopia. The OnePlus 2 on the other hand is also an Amazon exclusive smartphone and it carries the exact same price tag of Rs. 24,999. The OnePlus 2 which was earlier available only through an invite has gone invite free now and you can easily get your hands on the smartphone.

BUILD & DESIGN Comparison: The YU Yutopia carries dimensions of 14.7 x 7.3 x 0.7 cm and it weighs around 159 grams, the OnePlus 2 on the other hand, measures 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.8 mm, and it is 175 grams in weight. The YU Yutopia and the OnePlus 2 feature very different design forms. The YU Yutopia sports an all-metal unibody design on the other hand, the OnePlus 2 comes with an aluminum and magnesium frame and a removable sandstone back panel which can be swapped with the other back panels provided by OnePlus. Both the smartphones have likable design and they will have their set of likers and dislikers, the fans of metal body will prefer the YU Yutopia and the ones who like to swap covers and experiment will find the OnePlus 2 more preferable.


DISPLAY Comparison: The YU Yutopia is sports a 5.2 inch OGS display that has 1440 x 2560 pixels of resolution and a pixel density of 564 ppi. This is protected by Corning Concore Glass. Its competitor, OnePlus 2 flaunts a slightly larger 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and offering a pixel density of 403 ppi. The screen of the OnePlus 2 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

FINGERPRINT SCANNER Comparison:  Both the smartphone equipped with fingerprint scanners but their displacement are different. The YU Yutopia has a circular fingerprint scanner on the back of the smartphone below the camera lens in contrast, the OnePlus 2 sports a fingerprint scanner on the front of the smartphone below the screen and it is embedded in what looks like a physical home button but it is capacitive touch panel.

PROCESSOR Comparison: Both Yu Yutopia and OnePlus 2 are powered by the same 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 1.8GHz. This is coupled with the same Adreno 430 GPU and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM.

STORAGE Comparison: The YU Yutopia comes with 32GB of internal storage compared to 64GB in the OnePlus 2. But the YU Yutopia comes with a microSD card slot using which one can expand the storage space up to 128GB.


CAMERA Comparison: The YU Yutopia offers a camera with more megapixels using a Sony Exmor RS IMX230 sensor. The primary camera of the YU Yutopia is a 21 MP one and it is supported with dual tone LED flash, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), PDAF, 4K video recording. On the rear, the smartphone has an 8 MP secondary shooter with f2.2 Aperture and pixel size of 1.4 microns. On the other hand, the OnePlus 2 has just 13 MP camera with the features such as Laser Autofocus, OIS, and Dual LED Flash, Slow-Mo video recording capability and 4K Time-Lapse Videos. On the front the OnePlus 2 has a 5 MP secondary camera. Both the smartphone click very impressive pictures.

SOFTWARE Comparison: This is one department where the YU Yutopia has a slight over hand on the OnePlus 2. The Yutopia runs the Cyanogen 12.1 OS based on Android Lollipop. The company also informed that the smartphone will eventually be getting the Cyanogen 13 OS based on the latest Android Marshmallow.  The OnePlus 2 on the other hand comes with OnePlus’ own Oxygen OS, based on Android Lollipop, which is almost stock Android with some useful customization options and features.

BATTERY Comparison: The YU Yutopia has a slightly smaller 3000mAh battery compared to the 3300mAh battery of the OnePlus 2. But the YU Yutopia comes with the Quick Charge 2.0 feature.

CONNECTIVITY Comparison: Both the smartphones offer dual SIM usage and 4G LTE support. The thing to note is that the YU Yutopia has a hybrid SIM slot due to which one can use either the second SIM or the microSD card.

OnePlus 2 vs YU Yutopia- CONCLUSION: Deciding between the two smartphones can be a very close call, considering the fact that the OnePlus 2 is now available invite free. The specs of the YU Yutopia looks fantastic on paper but we will have to check how much of it converts to real world usage. But we have already checked the OnePlus 2 and it is a brilliant smartphone. The Oxygen OS has also gone better from what it was when we first saw it.
