Samsung Galaxy ON5 vs Samsung Galaxy ON7: Samsung had yesterday released its ON series of smartphones in India. Priced at Rs. 8,990 and Rs 10,990 these two smartphones will directly compete in the budget segment of smartphones in India against the likes of YU, Moto G, Xiaomi Smartphones, Meizu etc.
Both the ON5 and the ON7 smartphones come with specifications and features ranging from low range to mid range. Both these smartphones have very much the same under the hood hardware specifications and the Rs. 2000 difference is because of the minor changes in camera and the bigger display size on the ON7.
Samsung Galaxy ON5 vs Samsung Galaxy ON7, Comparison, Price
Let’s have a detailed comparison of both the smartphones and see what are the similarities and differences and it the 2000 bucks difference is justified.
- BUILD & DESIGN
Dimension-wise, the Samsung Galaxy On5 is a bit smaller than its companion ON7. With the dimensions of 5.60 x 2.84 x 0.33 inch, the Galaxy ON5 is just 0.38 inch smaller than the Galaxy ON7, which is 5.98 x 3.05 x 0.32 inches. The weights of the ON5 and the ON7 being 149 gm and 172 gm respectively.
In terms of the design both the devices sports pretty similar design, actually Samsung has been coming up with the same form factor in most of its smartphones, Samsung has just not yet decided to give up on its favorite design that we are somewhat bored of. The smartphones feature a leathery plastic back.
Samsung had recently launched the Samsung Z3 in India
and that was the cheapest smartphone in India having an AMOLED screen. But sadly, Samsung has not used the AMOLED displays in the ON5 nor in the ON7, instead they have gone with the TFT capacitive touchscreens.
The Samsung Galaxy ON5 features a 5 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen having a color density of 16M. The Samsung Galaxy ON7 on the other hand sports a 5.5 inch TFT capacitive screen, having the same 16M color density. The ON5 being a smaller screen device has a pixel density of 288 ppi whereas the ON7 has just 267 ppi.
The 720p screen on the large 5.5 inch screen of the ON7 fails to impress as this leads top pixelation in higher resolution images. With the other company smartphones offering a Full HD screen in the sub-10000 range, the 720 p screen counts as a shortcoming in the Samsung Galaxy ON7.
Both the Samsung Galaxy ON5 and the Samsung Galaxy ON7 are powered by the same Exynos 3475 processor. The slight difference being – in the Galaxy ON5, it is a Quad-core, Cortex-A7 that is clocked at 1.3 GHz and in the Galaxy ON7 the processor is a 1.2 GHz, Quad-core, Cortex-A7 one. The two phones have the Mali T720 GPU.
- RAM & STORAGE
Both the smartphones come packed with 1.5GB of RAM. With most of the smartphones offering at least 2GB of RAM, the ON series phone lags behind in this.
With the 1.5GB of RAM, the users get 8GB of internal storage and this is expandable upto 128GB using a microSD card.
The costlier Samsung Galaxy ON7 comes with a 13MP primary camera, having autofocus, LED flash among other features. In the Galaxy On5, the back houses only an 8MP primary camera with same features of autofocus, LED flash among others.
The pictures clicked by the two cameras differ in resolution too, the one captured on the ON5 captures images of resolution 3264 x 2448 pixels and the one captured by the ON7 has 4128 x 3096 pixels. Both the devices have the same 5MP secondary camera on the front.
The Samsung Galaxy ON5 and the Samsung Galaxy ON7 both runs the Android Lollipop 5.1.1, on top of that they have the famous TouchWiz UI. TouchWiz UI has been pretty much discussed especially for the bad things but with the new iteration of the UI that we have seen since the Samsung Galaxy S6, the complaints have mostly faded as Samsung has done away with most of the bloatware and the UI is snappier than it has ever been and we expect it to deliver the same performance in the new ON smartphones too.
The Samsung Galaxy On5 and the Galaxy ON7 comes powered with a 2600 mAh and a 3000 mAh battery respectively, which i believe will not be the cause for any trouble in the two devices.

My Opinion: Had I been in your place I would have seen my other options offered by the Indo-Chinese smartphone. But if you have to go with a Samsung smartphone especially between these two, go with the ON7, with a little higher clocked CPU, better camera and improved battery, the phone promises good performance and the huge screen does not actually feel uncomfortable to use..
