Huawei Honor 7 Smartphone: The Chinese Smartphone company Huawei has made a roaring entry into the mid segment Smartphone market in India with the Honor 7, which was launched yesterday at Delhi. The Honor 7 will be exclusively available online on Flipkart, from October 15, at a price of Rs. 22,999.
Huawei Honor 7 Review: Great Device at a Lovable Price
With the Honor 7, Huawei looks like following One Plus’ philosophy of providing its users high ends specs at an affordable price and it has to some extent succeeded in achieving it. With the price tag of Rs. 22,999, the Honor 7 will directly be pitted against One Plus 2 and the Moto X Play, which are priced at Rs. 18,499 and Rs. 24,999 respectively.
We are you to truly test the potential of the Huawei Honor 7 against the likes on One Plus 2 and Moto X Play, but we have here come up with the first impressions review of the Honor 7 to help you to better understand the features and the potential of this sturdy looking device.
Huawei Honor 7: Build and Design
The first thing that you notice about the Honor 7 when you hold it in your hands is the gentle roughness on the back, which is because of the Ceramic sand-blasting that is done all over the metal body and it feels good in the palms, not to forget the nice grip it provides.
Most of the design of the Honor 7 is borrowed from Huawei’s own Ascend Mate 7. At 8.5 mm, it is not among the slimmest of smartphones but the well-rounded edges make the phone feel good in the palm.
The back of the Honor 7 is a rough aluminum body, having a fingerprint scanner under the square camera with dual led flash. The roughness of the back metal gives the phone a nice look and feel and it does look premium.
Huawei Honor 7: Display
The front of the Honor 7 sports a nice 5.2 inches IPS LCD screen that is full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) with a pixel density of 424 PPI. The screen of the Honor 7 is very impressive and produces accurate color.
The brightness level of the device was impressive too and promises a nice visibility under the sun and it offers nice viewing angles too. At 1500:1, the device offers a high contrast ratio and a color saturation rate as high as 85%.
Huawei Honor 7: Performance
The Honor 7 is run by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 935 chipset, which is clocked at 2.2 GHz and is a 64-bit octa-core processor. That is coupled with a 3GB RAM. This is the same chipset which Huawei had used in its flagship P8. In whatever time is spent with the device, it performed very well and did not lag. The games ran well and web browsing was smooth too. We will have to wait for to check how the Honor 7 performs in the long run.
A special mention must be made of the fingerprint scanner on the back of the Honor 7; it was very accurate and performed very fast.
Huawei Honor 7: Camera
The Honor 7 features a 20 MP camera on the rear that is covered by a durable sapphire lens. Huawei has used Sony IMX230 sensor and it features PDAF fast-focusing technology. The front of the device boasts of a 8 MP camera. Huawei has promised an autofocus speed of 0.1 second.
I found the camera UI to be very simple and easy to use, you are also provided few other features like the Slow-mo and time lapse video modes, with that you are also provide stock filters to fulfill your ‘intagramic’ needs.
Huawei Honor 7: Software Experience
The Honor 7 runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop and has the EMUI 3.1 skin on that. The EMUI that looks like a crossbreed between the iOS and Android was not able to impress me much. It comes packed with some bloatware that are not particularly useful and eats up the space. The only features that I liked were the motion control and voice wake-up features.
Huawei Honor 7: Storage
The device will be available with 16 GB of internal storage out of which a large 7 GB will be eaten up by the EMUI and the user will only get 9 GB of storage. On the good side, the Honor 7 does feature the option to expand the storage with a microSD card upto 128 GB.
Huawei Honor 7: Battery
The honor 7 comes packed with a large 3100 mAh battery and the SmartPower 3.0 feature that promises a long battery life. Going by the promotions, the Honor 7 will last for 2.57 days with light usage and up to 1.2 days with heavy usage.
We will have to wait to check if the promises turn out to be true in the real world usage.

Huawei Honor 7: First Impression
The Honor 7 is a very impressive device at third price range, offering a lot of cool features like the rugged metal body, fast and accurate fingerprint sensor, good cameras among others at this mid-level price. The A8 from Samsung that offers similar features costs almost 8500 bucks more. The only device that comes near to the Honor 7 in features is the One Plus 2. I just could not like the heavy MIUI other than that, going by the first impressions, the Honor 7 can be a nice buy.
